Book of the Week
The Book of the Week last week was Harrison Spader, Personal Space Invader by Christianne Jones. Harrison Spader sits a little too close. Shakes hands for a little too long. High-fives a little too hard. And hugs a little too much. Harrison Spader is a personal space invader!

Chatterbooks sessions
Last week, new library Chatterbooks groups began their first session with the funny book, Alan's Big Scary Teeth. Everyone had great fun answering the questions at the end, with all groups getting an impressive 10/10!

Lost books - can you help?
All of the library copies of The Secret World of Polly Flint by Helen Cresswell are missing and Miss Flower has children waiting to read a copy to complete their 15 Books to Read in Year 3 trackers.
Please can you check to see if your child has borrowed a copy - if you find one, please return it to the school library asap. Thank you.

We won a book!
Miss Flower recently entered a competition to win a new book for our school library. Great news - we have been chosen as one of the lucky winners!

The Green Kingdom by Cornelia Funke - Enter the story of Caspia, who sets out to solve a series of riddles, and as she does, she meets friends she could have never imagined.

'Anywhere can feel like home if you are brave enough to put down new roots…'

Caspia’s summer is transformed when she discovers a bundle of letters containing ten botanical riddles in this enchanting adventure.

The book is available to borrow from the library, as well as some lovely bookmarks free for children to take.

Marvellous Magazines!
Did you know that we have lots of children's magazines available for children to borrow from the library? Titles include Storytime, Horrible Science, Amazing! and Cocoa Girl/Boy. Why not give a copy a try?

Plants for Pollinators project
For 2026, Havering Council has launched an ambitious year-long Plants for Pollinators project across all Havering public libraries, highlighting the vital role of pollinators (like butterflies, bees and beetles) and empowering residents to take action to support them.

All primary schools in the borough have been gifted copies of two lovely books focusing on pollination and rewilding - last week, we have received our copies and they are now available for children to borrow from our school library.

Throughout 2026, Havering Libraries will offer a wide range of activities, events, and learning opportunities designed to raise awareness of pollinators and inspire sustainable gardening practices. If you would like to learn more and find out how you and your children can get involved, please visit Harold Hill Library or your nearest local public library.

Urgent request - Returning borrowed library books
We have so many lovely books in our library but, unfortunately, many of them get borrowed by a child and then never returned to the library. Please can you check at home to see if you have any Broadford library books (stamped inside/Broadford logo attached). If you do, please pass them to your child to return to the library asap, where our Book Monster is waiting to eat them! Thank you.

The Story Scrapbook has been on the move!

The Story Scrapbook has been on the move!

Each week, a different class around the school is delivered the scrapbook by two of our Spinebreakers. The class's task is to fill a double-page spread with work based on a book of their choice - this could be their end-of-day story or a class favourite. Classes can fill their pages with drawings, paintings, writing, collages - they just need to be creative and use their imaginations!

Last week, the Story Scrapbook had its next delivery, to Larch class in Year 5. The class chose Emma Carroll's Letters from the Lighthouse as their theme and produced some wonderfully creative pages!

Aryaan, one of Larch class's Spinebreakers, then returned the Story Scrapbook to the library for some photos. The next class to receive the scrapbook will be Aspen class in ReceptionWe look forward to seeing what they will do!

Reading Assemblies - Supertato and Bill's New Frock

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Wyatt read Supertato. Meet Supertato! He's always there for you when the chips are down. He's the supermarket superhero with eyes everywhere - but now there's a pea on the loose. A very naughty pea. Has Supertato finally met his match?

This book features on the Reception 105 book list, which you can see here

For the KS2 Reading Assembly this week, Mrs Spoor read some extracts from Bill's New Frock. Bill Simpson wakes up to find he’s a girl, and worse, his mother makes him wear a frilly pink dress to school. How on earth is he going to survive a whole day like this? Everything just seems to be different for girls…

This book features on the Year 5 105 book list, which you can see here

Please email Miss Flower, School Librarian, if you are looking for one of the '105 Books to Read', with your child's full name and class.

Lunchtime library club
Last week, our lunchtime Library Club children enjoyed some pirate-themed activities.

Book of the Week
The Book of the Week last week was The Ghost of Grania O'Malley by Michael Morpurgo. Everyone knows the Big Hill is full of gold, and now the islanders are intent on cutting the top off it and making themselves rich. Jessie and Jack are determined to save the Big Hill but what can they do? A plan is needed, and fast. Could the ghost of Grania O'Malley, the pirate queen, be the answer?

Chatterbooks sessions
Last week, library Chatterbooks groups continued enjoying Supertato! Everyone had great fun colouring in superhero vegetables!
