The Editor's Challenge - A Fantastic Response So Far!

We have had some amazing entries for the Editor's challenge so far. Pupils across Key Stage 2 have been very eager to participate in the latest competition from the National Literacy Trust.

Taking part could not be easier...
Simply pick up a challenge pack from the library and complete the five activities inside. Along the way you will have the opportunity to create quizzes, puzzles, an attractive front cover, celebrity interviews and star-studded comic strips.

You have from now until Friday 11 December to hand your completed magazines in for judging. Good luck!

Chatterbooks - Year Three Spinebreakers

At the start of the term the year 3 Spinebreakers were set the task of reading and reviewing the latest books as part of a group called the Chatterboooks. We started off with ten new books...

The Spy Who Loved School Dinners
Granpa's Great Escape
The Sleeper and The Spindle
Burping Bertha
Frankie's Magic Football The Grizzly Games
Billy Bonkers
Cakes in Space
Fluttershy and the Furry Friends Fair
Daisy and the Trouble with Coconuts
Witch Wars

We each took a book home to begin reading. Since then we have met every week to discuss what we have been reading, including any likes and dislikes we have, chatted about the characters and changed our completed books for new ones. For each book we have completed and reviewed we have earned a sticker on our Chatterbooks card - once we earn five we will receive a certificate and prize. We are planning to meet before the school holidays to create a list of 10 new books we would like to read and review in the Spring Term.

Take a look at a couple of our short reviews so far...

Eryia: Grandpas Great Escape - 4 STARS
This story is really fun! The main character is a 12 year old boy called Jack. He has a grandpa who fought in WW2 - his grandpa was every old, so old infact that he started to think he was still in the war! One time, during a school trip, Jack went to the war museum and found his grandpa asleep in a spitfire hanging from the ceiling. He climbed up onto the wings of the plane to get to his grandpa but a security guard (who looked a little bit like a gorilla) tried to stop Jack and his grandpa. They slid on the wing of the spitfire leaving the security guard hanging on their legs!

Libby: Flutter Shy and the Furry Friends Fair - 4 STARS
I loved reading this book! I really liked the angel bunny; in the story two mean brothers from a circus teased angel bunny about having no talent so, he wanted to prove to himself that he does have talent. There was a sheep herding competition and he won second place - this gave him more confident and he felt much better about himself.

Premier Reading League - One Week To Go!

There is one week remaining until the Premier Reading League comes to an end - that's just seven days to read and review as much as you can! Winners will be announced on Friday, here on the blog and in assembly. The 2 teams with the most points will be invited to join us on a trip to watch the London Lions vs Plymouth Raiders at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday 13 December 2015; they will be joined by two individual winners who have earned the most points for their teams, but are not in first or second place.

The league table will be taken down tomorrow, from then on the children will be be collecting points in secret. Look out for the winners, announced here on Friday next week! Good luck!
