Pine Class Spinebreakers Visit Harold Hill Library

Laura and Ethan are the first of our Year 1 Spinebreakers to have visited Harold Hill library this afternoon. On arrival they were greeted by Mead's Spinebreakers, Sophia and Ali. They enjoyed spending time searching for books and sharing stories. At the end of their visit they each selected a book to bring back to school, they will meet again next week to write a review on the book that they borrowed.

On returning to school, Laura and Ethan had their volunteer trackers signed for the first time!

Year 1 In The Library

This week Year 1 pupils have been visiting the school library to share stories and choose new books to enjoy at home. We encourage children to return their books on a weekly basis - if they do, they earn a ticket for the 'Returning Books Raffle'. See link. Three lucky winners will be chosen at random on Monday 16 October 2017.

Year 1 Returning Books Raffle

This week children in year 1 will start to borrow books from our school library. To encourage them to return them on a weekly basis there will be a raffle. For every book returned to the library a ticket with the child's name on will go into our raffle box. At the end of each half term three names will be pulled at random. The three lucky winners will each choose a new book of their choice to keep. The more times they return their books, the more chances they will have of winning!

Get Caught Reading Winners 2017

Congratulations to our winners of this Summer's Get Caught Reading competition! There was a total of 92 photos shared of our pupils and staff reading in locations stretching from Cuba, all the way to India! We've seen children reading while hanging upside down; enjoying stories while relaxing in exotic locations; and on a whole host of fantastic inflatables!

The map above shows all the places where children and teachers were caught reading.

As you can image, choosing a winner from each Key Stage, and a runner-up, was quite a challenge! However, after much deliberation we finally reached a decision...

Key Stage One Winner: Leah Sharpe was spotted reading while taking a break in a lorry.

Key Stage One Runner-Up: Ethan Carruth was discovered sound asleep after an exhausting read the night before.

Key Stage Two Winner: Connor Robinson was spotted reading a story to two Stormtroopers.

Key Stage Two Runner-Up: Caitlin Bowden was caught reading at Dover Castle and with her head in the stocks in Stratford-Upon-Avon!

Well done to everyone who took part. The Get Caught Reading competition will return next Summer.
