Premier Reading League Winners Take To The Lanes!

The Premier Reading League Winners, The Big Brains, ventured out on a trip to Namco Funscape this morning. Despite having worked as a team for ten weeks, they were quick to compete against one another for the title of  'Bowling Champion'!

We witnessed some excellent bowling skills - Laura, Nicole, Shajia and Miss Betty all scored strikes! In the end it came down to who had scored the most points; Laura bet her competitors with a score of 97 points!

Having built up quite an appetite, the team headed for McDonalds for a well-earned lunch of burgers and fries.

The Premier Reading League will return in the second half of the next Autumn Term. Again, pupils will have the opportunity to win a morning of fun and food by reading as part of a team.

Reading Assemblies - Certificates All Round!

What a week! With the return of the Premier Reading League, we have seen an increase in pupil participation in all library challenges and tasks. Keep reading to the end of this blogpost to see who we celebrated during our reading assemblies this week.

Emily Brown and the Thing was the story shared in this week's KS1 assembly, lead by Mrs Gradley. This book features on the Year 2 Reading Tracker.

Miss Kenealy read the opening chapter of Charlotte's Web. Did you know that E. B. White (the author of this story) actually owned a farm which he used as inspiration for the story, namely the red barn busy with animals. This book can be found on the Year 5 Reading Tracker.

Celebrating Library Achievements!

This week we have seen an increase in pupils participating in library challenges.

Well done to Aisha who completed the Black History Month Reading Challenge. We added the names of all of the pupils who took part and chose two at random - congratulations to Madalina and Layla whose names were chosen, they both received a copy of Alison Hammond's book, Black in Time.

Well done to Faramade, Varvara and Awwal for successfully completing an entry for the Create a Comic Competition.

Alice, Mateo, Noah, Tesha, Rohith, Maggie and Shivanshi all received Bronze Certificates for reading 5 titles on their 105 Books trackers. Vrisha was awarded with a Silver Certificate for reading 10 books.

Well done to Awwal for completing his Bookopoly Reading Challenge sheet.

The Premier Reading League Is Back!

The Premier Reading League is back! Our popular reading challenge sees teams of pupils making their way up the leader board by earning points through reading and reviewing books.

From now until the end of next week, pupils are invited to collect a sign up sheet from the school library. Once they have their sheet, they will need to give their team a name and list six children who will make up the team. They will then need to design a badge which will be used on our Premier Reading League board in the library. On the back of their sheet they can write the name of one adult (staff member) who will be joining their team too! Once completed, the sign up sheet is to be returned to Mrs McFarlane in the library where she can make a digital copy of the badge and create a table for recording points the team earn.

Our League Leader Board!

The league board will be updated every Friday. In order for points to be added, pupils will need to let Mrs McFarlane know when they have finished reading a book or completed a challenge or book review. Our points system is below:

1 Point for each book or 100 pages read.

3 Points for each book review completed (sheets available in the library).

5 Points for reading a book which is listed on the '105 Books' book list.

10 Points for completing any of our termly reading challenges.

Champions of the League!

For the last week of the challenge we will remove the teams from the board. Children will then be submitting their points in secret - building suspense before the winning team are announced! The winners will be announced during the following week's reading assembly. The winning team will then make the decision on where they would like to go as a reward. They can choose between the cinema, bowling or Kidspace! The trip is planned to take place on Wednesday 1st February 2023.

Kick Off!

The challenge will start on Tuesday 1st November 2022 and will run for 12 weeks (including termly breaks). The final day for submitting points will be Friday 20th January 2023.

Summer Term Premier Reading League - Sign Up Now!

You can sign up to take part in the Summer Term reading league now.

Last term was the first time we had introduced the reading league to pupils in KS1. We found it to be very successful, with more and more pupils wanting to participate. With that in mind we have decided to add an extra KS1 member to the teams, meaning you'll have five KS2 pupils, two KS1 pupils and one adult mascot.

The point system will remain the same - you'll earn 2 points for each book or 100 pages you read; 1 point for each newspaper, magazine or comic read; 3 points will be awarded when you complete a book review (these can be collected from the library); and finally 6 points will be given when you complete a book using your personal Book Blog account.

All pupils should be familiar with how My Book Blog works, but if you require any further information please do not hesitate to visit the library and speak to Mrs McFarlane.

You will be able to start collecting points from Monday 23rd April. The closing date will be Thursday 28 June, with the winners being announced in the Friday's assembly.

The Premier Reading League Winners Celebrate Their Success!

The Spring Term PRL Winners enjoyed a trip to Romford on Wednesday where they were joined by their team mascot, Miss Hubbard. For coming first in the 10 week reading challenge the team were rewarded with a trip of their choice. Together they decided on a morning of bowling at the Namco Centre, followed by lunch at Kaspa's.

Over the 10 week challenge, the team recorded their reading points daily; completed book reviews and signed in to their book blogs to complete comprehension tasks - all in all this helped them win the league with a total of 967 points.

With a total of 555 points, Mr White and his team; Ameerah Bashir, Ella Lockhart, Florence Ayres, Summer Wingrove, Laicey McGeoghan and Dorrie Lewis, are the winners of the Autumn Term Premier Reading League! The last few days of the competition were very tense, with the top three teams fighting their way to the top of the league! Premier Reading League - We Are Over Half Way Through!

There are just four more weeks remaining until the end of this term's Premier Reading League. Pupils from across KS2 have been working extremely hard to earn as many points as possible for their teams.

Currently in lead with 179 points is Unicorn Club! Team members, Emily Claydon, Diya Patel, Nikola Urban, Libby Northwood, Oliwia Bartnik and Courtney Simpson have been reading at every opportunity to earn extra points. Their team mascot is Mrs Charlesworth, who has been encouraging them to read at home and log their points in the library.

In a close second is The Reading Champs with 175 points. The team is made up of year three pupils, James Olatunji, Nina Joshi, Amandeep Ubhi, Dora Lewis, Alice Adedipe and Elliot Cottam, they are led by team mascot, Mrs Chance.

It is important to bring your reading record along with you to the library when you change your books, from here your points can be collected for your group.

Not in lead? Not a problem!
Earning points could not be easier! One point is awarded for each book, or for every 100 pages read. Three points is rewarded for writing a book review (why not complete the ones in the front of your reading record?!) and six points will be given for completing a review using MyBookBlog - if you're not sure how, ask you teacher or visit the library.

Good luck to all those currently taking part!
