Broadford's Big Book Giveaway

Costume Donations

Broadford's Big Book Giveaway!

Yesterday, as part of our World Book Day celebrations, we held our first Broadford's Big Book Giveaway!

This event was an opportunity to come along after school in the new hall to choose some books for free to enjoy at home.

The extremely generous donations by our Broadford community meant that there was a vast range of books available for everyone to choose from.

From popular chapter books, like Roald Dahl and Horrid Henry, fun graphic novels like Dogman, seasonal classics like The Night Before Christmas, to wonderful picture and board books for our younger readers, there really was something for everyone!

Everyone enjoyed browsing the books to find their favourites - or perhaps to discover a new book or author they had not read before.

There were lots of great choices made and very happy children!

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to support the event, which was a great success!

*LOOK OUT FOR THE NEXT 'BROADFORD'S BIG BOOK GIVEAWAY' COMING SOON*

Please continue to make any donations of children's books - you can give them to your child's class teacher or to the school library. Thank you.

World Book Day is TOMORROW!

World Book Day is TOMORROW!

To celebrate World Book Day and the National Year of Reading 2026, we will be going all in by enjoying lots of fun, reading-themed activities.

Character Costume Or Snuggly Pyjamas

We are inviting children to come into school on World Book Day in either their Favourite Character Costume or their Snuggly Pyjamas

Please remember, as this time of year is particularly cold and wet, it is really important that the children are dressed appropriately and have suitable footwear (such as long sleeves, trousers and outdoor shoes) to be able to enjoy any outdoor activities on the day.

We know that shop-bought costumes can be a little expensive, so why not try making something to wear instead... a character mask maybe?

You can find some helpful tips and ideas here.

Broadford's Big Book Giveaway!

We are excited to announce that Broadford's Big Book Giveaway will be held in the new hall after school TOMORROW on World Book Day!

Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated children's books for the event. If you haven't yet, there is still time! Please either give them to Miss Flower in the school library or your child's class teacher.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

World Book Day
Last Thursday, the whole school celebrated World Book Day in style, with lots of fun throughout the day! You can read all about it here.

Lunchtime library club
Last Monday, our lunchtime library club had great fun with some freestyle creativity on a big strip of paper - their task was to draw their favourite book character.

Chatterbooks sessions
Last week, the KS1 Chatterbooks groups enjoyed listening to The Gruffalo! Everyone is excited to start their activity.

New KS2 Chatterbooks groups started enjoying Julia Donaldson's classic, What the Ladybird Heard. Everyone had great fun acting out the animal sounds throughout the book while wearing the matching masks!

Library Displays
Spring into Reading in the library! We recently asked lots of children and adults in school to write onto a handprint something they love about reading - like their favourite children’s book or author, or why they enjoy our library. We have now used these to create a wonderful new wall display to celebrate the arrival of Spring - a beautiful, blossoming tree and flowers made out of the handprints!

New books in the Library
We have a lovely new selection of books available for children to borrow from the library, including firm favourites like Diary of A Wimpy Kid, David Walliams and Percy Jackson, as well as a wonderful new boxset of Shakespeare classics, which lots of children in Year 4 particularly are very keen to start reading!

105 Books reading achievements

Well done to Ahmad, Torsten, Olivia, Elsie, Ambica and Chirag who have received their Bronze Certificates for reading five books.

Well done to Ahmad, Natalia, Bernice, Gabia and Adela who have received their Silver Certificates for reading 10 books.

Well done to Ashar and Natalia who have earned their Gold Certificates for reading all 15 books!

Well done to all!

You can find the books from the 105 Books list for your child's year group here

Blue Peter Reading Badge

Earn your Blue Peter Reading Badge! See how you can take part here or pick up an entry form from the library.

Urgent request - Returning borrowed library books
We have had lots of lovely new books added to the library collection over the past couple of months but, unfortunately, many of them have been borrowed by children and never returned to the library. Please can you check at home to see if you have any Broadford library books (stamped inside/Broadford logo attached). If you do, please pass them to your child to return to the library asap, where our Book Monster is waiting to eat them! Thank you.
