This week, Miss Flower had a huge pile of certificates and some prizes to hand out to the children who participated in the summer reading challenges.

Get Caught Reading
Over the summer, so many of our Broadford Primary children enjoyed getting caught reading in all sorts of wonderful places - including forests, castles, museums, foreign countries, libraries, zoos, gardens, public transport, dens, bedrooms, and so many more!

National Summer Reading Challenge

Over the summer, lots of super readers took part in the Havering Libraries National Summer Reading Challenge.

During the summer, we are inviting parents/carers and family members to ‘catch their child reading’. It could be a book, a comic, a menu, instructions - anything with words! Children might be caught reading on the beach, in the garden, up a tree or snuggled on the sofa - the more creative, the better! 

How to take part:

There is ONE entry per child. Please send one photo (with your child's full name and new class) of your child caught reading over the summer - that is all you need to be entered into the challenge!

Later this week, children will receive a copy of our Broadford school library Summer Reading Challenge, which is a great, fun way to encourage and continue enjoying reading over the summer holidays.

Make sure you hand your completed challenge to Miss Flower in the school library when you return to school by Friday 4th September for a special certificate and the chance to win a prize!

We believe in encouraging them to read both inside and beyond school and that the most effective way to promote reading is to work in partnership with parents and families.

Welcome back to our weekly Reading Assemblies! This week, we had a huge pile of certificates and prizes to hand out to the children who participated in the summer reading challenges.

Facebook Summer Questions

During the six-weeks holidays, you may have seen over on our Facebook page that we asked story-related questions. We chose one child, who correctly answered the questions, at random. The winners were rewarded with a new book, a bookmark and a certificate. Thank you to everybody who participated.

National Summer Reading Challenge

We have received so many photos of our super pupils at their local libraries with their certificates. This can be a book or any other reading material, such as timetables, recipes or instructions. Children may be caught reading on holiday somewhere, snuggled up at home, in the local library, up a tree in the garden - the more creative, the better! The photos can then be shared via our social media platforms to celebrate the reading being done and to promote the competition to other families.

Like previous years, we would love to see you reading during the summer break, whether it be at home or far away. Photos can be sent in via our Facebook and Instagram pages.
