For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Mrs Stanley read The Proudest Blue, an uplifting picture book with Islam at its heart, with a universal story of new experiences, the unbreakable bond shared by siblings and of being proud of who you are.

For the KS2 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Kenealy introduced Questions and Answers about our World. A beautifully illustrated non-fiction book full of flaps to lift to find answers to questions like "Where is the tallest waterfall?" and "What are clouds made of?"

Reading Assemblies - The Day the Crayons Quit and The Boy Who Grew Dragons

 

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Myers read the Oliver Jeffers’s classic, The Day the Crayons Quit. Poor Duncan just wants to colour. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only written letters, all saying the same thing: His crayons have had enough! They quit!

For the KS2 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Bell read an extract from The Boy Who Grew Dragons. When Tomas discovers a strange old tree at the bottom of his grandad's garden, he doesn't think much of it. But he takes the funny fruit from the tree back into the house – and gets the shock and delight of his life when a tiny dragon hatches!

Reading Assemblies - The Human Body and Voices in the Park

   

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Harman read some of the non-fiction book, The Human Body. The unique design of this book allows children to discover a ‘hidden’ image by holding the page up to a bright light or shining a torch behind the page.

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Myers read the classic story, We're Going on a Bear Hunt. Follow and join in the family's excitement as they wade through the grass, splash through the river and squelch through the mud in search of a bear!

 Winter Reading Challenge winners!

Thank you to the following children who enjoyed taking part in the library Winter Reading Challenge over the Christmas break and handed in their completed sheets:

 All of the children who took part had their names entered into a competition to win a super prize. The lucky winner randomly chosen in KS1 was Zenaya in Year 2 and the runner-up was Alice in Year 2, while in KS2 the winner was Kevin from Year 3 and the runner-up was Ayra from Year 4. 

Everyone else who took part received a lovely certificate.

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Davies read the Emily Gravett favourite, Meerkat Mail. Sunny is a meerkat who is unhappy with his hectic home life so decides to set off on a journey around the world!
