Year 3 Spinebreakers Visit Waterstones

The Spinebreakers from Sequoia and Hazel took a trip into Romford for one of our half-termly visits to Waterstones. Like Spinebreakers before them, their task was to purchase new books for our school library.

After spending some time searching the shelves in the children's area, they each selected two books they thought would be perfect for, not only them, but their friends to read too.

Zac is a fan of Roald Dahl, so decided to add The Enormous Crocodile and The BFG to our growing collection.

Florence was pleased to see a story with a character who has the same name as her, Florence the Friendship Fairy. She was also drawn to the pretty cover of her second choice, Isadora Moon Goes to the Fair.

Like Zac, Vinnie went for two books by Roald Dahl, this time it was Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - excellent choices!

Roxy narrowed her choices down to two books that she thought her and her friends would enjoy reading. She picked Amelia Fang and the Unicorn Lords, and A Kitten Called Tiger.

After all the hard work they put in to buying new books, the Spinebreakers were treated to hot chocolates, marshmallows and Cornflake nests in Costa.

The Spinebreakers have taken away some of the books to read first, but there is also a selection available to borrow from the library - they can be found in the 'new books' section.

World Book Day: Theo Dressed As A Unicorn

Theo joined in the World Book Day celebrations by joining us on Friday dressed as a unicorn! Theo visits Broadford three times a week to hear children from across the school read.

World Book Day: Super Quote Searching

To celebrate World Book Day pupils were set the task of searching for quotes worn by staff across the school. They worked independently and in small groups to search for quotes from famous children's books. Here are just a few...

'Even the smallest one can change the world', Peter Rabbit

'If we're kind and polite, the world will be right', Paddington

'If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will look lovely', The Twits

'I'd rather be happy and odd, than miserable and ordinary', Goodnight Mister Tom

Well done to Alex Kopiec, Amelie Gallagher, Srinika Manickavasagum, Kaitlin Smethhurst, Ethan Himuyandi, Arya Shah, Fayo Ayodola, Ella Hemsworth, Ife Ogochukw-Ijehor, Inyia Boothiraj, Amelia Barnett, Siena Cornish, Sonia Lewis, Isabelle Munford, Simran Bashir, Diya Patel, Armani Peek, Yasmin Satti, Ranita Ariyibi, Yemi Adedipe, Connor Borrell and Caitlin Bowden for completing the search.

If you have a completed sheet, don't forget to hand it in at the library in order to receive your certificate!

World Book Day: Best Dressed 2018

We saw some amazing costumes on Friday in celebration of World Book Day. Here are the children who were voted best dressed for each class.

PM Nursery: Dominic Jordan made an excellent Umpa-Lumpa!

Nursery AM and Reception: We have Mackenzie Hanmore as Harry Potter, Thea-Rose Little as Cruella De Vil, Janiya Cousins as Repunzel and Lexie-Mae Dixon as an Umpa-Lumpa.

Year 1 and 2: Ellie Chalmer remained in character all day as the devious Cruella De Vil, we have Tyler Kelly as the Wizard of Oz's Scarecrow, Blake made a superb Gadabout the Great, Ella Hemsworth was Gangsta Granny and Amelia Davis shuffled along in her slim-fitting skirt as Nanny McPhee.

Year 3: Tommy Cressey added his Granddad's medal to his costume, making him a spectular Grandpa from David Walliams' Grandpa's Great Escape. Sabeer Rahman came dressed as Willy Wonka.

Year 4 and 6: Some mean looking characters here! Ethan Gibbs was the Joker, sitting alongside Khaira Hascar as the Big Bad Wolf. We have a very angelic looking Sofia Raif as Mary Poppins. Arhaan Kaushal was the Lord of the Ring's Sauron - very impressive!

Year 5: Trinity Hawkes was the Mad-Hatter for the day, Armani Peek was the Demon Dentist and Leo Whiten was the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.

Well done to all those who won, they each received a book token and certificate for their efforts.
