World Book Day is TOMORROW!

To celebrate World Book Day and the National Year of Reading 2026, we will be going all in by enjoying lots of fun, reading-themed activities.

Character Costume Or Snuggly Pyjamas

We are inviting children to come into school on World Book Day in either their Favourite Character Costume or their Snuggly Pyjamas. 

Please remember, as this time of year is particularly cold and wet, it is really important that the children are dressed appropriately and have suitable footwear (such as long sleeves, trousers and outdoor shoes) to be able to enjoy any outdoor activities on the day.

We know that shop-bought costumes can be a little expensive, so why not try making something to wear instead... a character mask maybe?

Broadford's Big Book Giveaway!

We are excited to announce that Broadford's Big Book Giveaway will be held in the new hall after school TOMORROW on World Book Day!

Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated children's books for the event. If you haven't yet, there is still time! Please either give them to Miss Flower in the school library or your child's class teacher.

Reading Assemblies - Amazing Grace and Wonder

 

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Davis read Amazing Grace. A touching and beautiful picture book about being true to yourself and not letting anyone hold you back.

For the KS2 Reading Assembly this week, Mr Cardwell read from Wonder. Born with a terrible facial abnormality, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life. Now, for the first time, he is being sent to a real school – and he is dreading it. All he wants is to be accepted – but can he convince his new classmates that he is just like them, underneath it all?

Lunchtime library club 

Last week, our lunchtime Library Club children enjoyed helping Miss Flower create a wonderful Spring into Reading display for the wall, using handprints to make flowers. Each child wrote on their handprint something reading-themed, such as what they love about reading, their favourite book or character.

Book of the Week

The Book of the Week last week was The Lighthouse Keeper's Mystery by Ronda & David Armitage. After a clean-up at the lighthouse, Mr Grinling is worried: it seems that someone is dumping rubbish into the sea! His great-nephew, George, thinks it might be the work of pirates. But could the culprit be closer to home?

Chatterbooks sessions

Last week, new library Chatterbooks groups had lots of fun reading and acting out the Julia Donaldson classic, What the Ladybird Heard. All groups got 10/10 for their questions about the story. Great work everyone!

Spinebreakers

Last Thursday, the Year 4 Spinebreakers enjoyed a fun trip to Harold Hill Library. You can read more about it here

Urgent request - Returning borrowed library books

We have so many lovely books in our library but, unfortunately, many of them get borrowed by a child and then never returned to the library. Please can you check at home to see if you have any Broadford library books (stamped inside/Broadford logo attached). If you do, please pass them to your child to return to the library asap, where our Book Monster is waiting to eat them! Thank you.
