The Book Fair starts today!

We are pleased to announce that the Book Fair starts today!

It will be held at the side entrance of the Charlton hall (new hall) after school from 3.15pm-3.30pm on the following dates:

Wednesday 1 October

Thursday 2 October

Friday 3 October

Books start from just £2.99. There is a special promotion of 3 books for the price of 2 (cheapest book free). There are lots of titles available to suit all children's ages. 

If you are planning on making a purchase, we would be grateful for plenty of change if paying by cash.

Contactless payments can also be made by card or via mobile phone.

A percentage of the money raised will go towards new books for our school library, so please come along and show your support!

Lunchtime library club 

Last week, the lunchtime library club got creative and made their own bookmarks. 

Book of the Week

*The Castle of Tangled Magic by Sophie Anderson* When 13-year-old Olia steps through a magical doorway, she discovers another land. A land tangled by magic, where hope is lost, and a scheming wizard holds all the power. Soon Olia learns that she is destined to save this land, but with time running out and her new friends and family in danger, she must search for the magic within herself - to save everything and everyone she loves.

Chatterbooks sessions

Last week, the library Chatterbooks groups continued with Tell Me A Dragon. Everyone had lots of fun designing their own dragon or making a dragon bookmark.

Spinebreakers

Last Thursday, the Year 6 Spinebreakers enjoyed a great trip to Waterstones bookshop in Romford, where they purchased a lovely selection of new books for the library.

Urgent request - Returning borrowed library books

We have so many lovely books in our library but, unfortunately, many of them get borrowed by a child and then never returned to the library. Please can you check at home to see if you have any Broadford library books (stamped inside/Broadford logo attached). If you do, please pass them to your child to return to the library asap, where our Book Monster is waiting to eat them! Thank you.

Year 6 Spinebreakers visit Waterstones!

     

 Yesterday morning, our Year 6 Spinebreakers had a lovely trip to Waterstones in Romford. Their mission was to purchase a selection of new books for the school Library!

The children spent lots of time perusing the shelves to find books from favourite authors and series that they knew would be welcome additions to our library. They made some great selections!

Once they had chosen and purchased their books, the Spinebreakers enjoyed some tasty sweet treats while completing some fun wordsearches.

On our return to school, the Year 6 Spinebreakers headed to the library, where their final job to end a fun morning was to mark off a successfully completed task from their Spinebreaker trackers - *Purchased new books for the library.

The lovely range of new books purchased will soon be going on display in the library for everyone to borrow and enjoy!

Reading Assemblies - Welcome to Our World and Heidi

            

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Hines read some of Welcome to Our World. 

This magnificent book celebrates children from around the world - their cultures and languages.

This book features on the Reception 105 book list, which you can see here

For the KS2 Reading Assembly, Miss McClenaghan introduced the opening part of Heidi. Written over a century ago, Heidi is set in the Swiss Alps and follows the story of a young orphan who is sent to the Swiss mountains to live with her grandfather.

This week, our Story Suitcases were taken home by Aahan, Eva, Joshua and Fariha. We hope you all enjoy a snuggly evening with a great book and a yummy hot chocolate.

Last week, the lunchtime library club finished off their All About Me sheets.

*Speak Up! by Nathan Bryon* Rocket loves nothing more than discovering new books in her local library. So when disaster strikes and the library is forced to shut down, she springs into action. Can Rocket speak up and save the day?

Chatterbooks sessions

Last week, the library Chatterbooks sessions began again. This academic year, the sessions are focusing on Years 2, 3 and 4. New groups of children were very excited to come for their first session - the first story is Tell Me A Dragon. All of the groups enjoyed participating in shared reads of the story, before answering some questions about it. All groups got 10/10 - well done to all!

New Books!

We have had a yet another wonderful set of books generously donated to us. This time, it is lots of titles from the very popular Rainbow Magic series! They have gone on display in the library today for children to borrow.

What a busy week!

It was an extremely busy week last week, as Miss Flower welcomed everyone back into the library after the summer break. Lots of books were borrowed by excited children and it was lovely to see some new faces coming into the library too!

 

Lunchtime library club 

Last week, we started the first lunchtime library club of the academic year by filling in some All About Me sheets.

New Books!

We have had a wonderful set of the very popular Dork Diaries series of books generously donated to us. They have gone on display in the library today for children to borrow.

Summer Reading

Last week, the winners and runners-up of the summer Get Caught Reading competition were announced, along with the names of all the children who took part in the various reading challenges. You can read the blog post here. What super readers!
