 Broadford Library in numbers
It has been an extremely busy first half term in the library, with lots of groups, activities and events taking place!

Lunchtime library club
Last week in our lunchtime library club, the children enjoyed a spooky session with a lovely mix of activities to choose from. Everyone was keen to complete all the worksheets. We particularly loved seeing all the creativity that went into the monsters that they designed.

New in the Library
Our Year 6 Spinebreakers had a lovely trip to Waterstones in Romford where they purchased some wonderful new books to add to our library collection.

Chatterbooks Sessions
Last week, the KS1 Chatterbooks groups listened to the story There's a Witch in your book. They loved using their fingers as a magic wand while listening to the story, especially when they were able to turn the witch into a stinky cat. They also had the opportunity to colour their own witches hat.

The KS2 Chatterbooks groups enjoyed listening to Room on the Broom, while producing some lovely artwork of who they would have on their own broomsticks.
We are delighted to have been able to offer Chatterbooks sessions in the library to 315 children across the school already this academic year!

Lunchtime library club
Last week in our lunchtime library club, the children celebrated Harry Potter book day. They answered some questions to work out what Sorting Hat they would be in. Some of the children were happy with the results; however, we did have a few Slytherins in the group! They also looked at different types of dragon eggs that featured in the Harry Potter world and took part in designing their own dragon eggs.

Library displays
We were recently very lucky to receive a wonderful donation of lots of Harry Potter books. This coincided perfectly with Harry Potter book day last Thursday, meaning we had a great selection of lovely books available for children to borrow.

New in the Library
The UEFA Nations League international football competition is in full swing! We have lots of lovely football-themed chapter book sets for children to borrow, including Girls F.C, Frank Lampard's Frankie's Football Magic and the Jamie Johnson series.

Visitors to the library
Last week, our Chatterbooks library sessions continued. Our KS1 children carried on with their Funnybones theme, making their own skeletons using different resources for each year group.

The KS2 groups continued with The Rainbow Fish, enjoying lots of fun activities including colouring their own rainbow fish (complete with special silver scales) and completing fish/sea-related matching games, word searches, crosswords.

Year 6 Spinebreakers visit Waterstones

Our Year 6 Spinebreakers had a lovely trip to Waterstones in Romford yesterday. Their mission was to purchase a selection of new books for the school Library!

The children spent lots of time perusing the shelves to find books from favourite authors and series that they knew would be welcome additions to our library. They made some great selections, including books by David Walliams, Michael Morpurgo and Jeff Kinney, and popular choices like Tom Gates, Dork Diaries and Guinness World Records.

Once they had chosen and purchased their books, the Spinebreakers headed upstairs to enjoy tasty hot chocolates and sweet treats in the W Cafe.

On our return to school, the Year 6 Spinebreakers headed to the library, where some of the group completed book reviews about previously read books, while others started their Blue Peter Reading badge applications.

Their final job to end a fun morning was to mark off some successfully completed tasks from their Spinebreaker trackers - * Purchased new books for the library and *Recommended a good book.

The lovely range of new books purchased will soon be going on display in the library for everyone to borrow and enjoy!

The Story Scrapbook is back for another year!

We are delighted to announce that the Story Scrapbook is back for another year!

Every week, a different class around the school is delivered the scrapbook by two of our Spinebreakers. The class's task is to fill a double-page spread with work based on a book of their choice - this could be their end-of-day story or a class favourite. Classes can fill their pages with drawings, paintings, writing, collages - they just need to be creative and use their imaginations!

Last week, the Story Scrapbook had its first delivery to Birch class in Year 6. The class chose Spaceboy by David Walliams as their theme and produced some wonderfully creative artwork!

Ryan and Aida, Birch class Spinebreakers, then returned the Story Scrapbook to the library for some photos before delivering it to Maple class in Year 4 for their turn. We look forward to seeing what Maple class will choose to do!

Reading Assembly - A schoolboy meets a caveman!

Miss Jewell introduced the story Stig of the Dump to KS2. This modern-day classic is a firm favourite. It follows bored schoolboy Barney, who meets a caveman named Stig living in a rubbish dump.

This book features on the Year 5 105 book list, which you can see here

This weeks books can be found in our school library to borrow.

Please email Miss Flower and Mrs Jobber if you are looking for one of the '105 Books to Read', with your child's full name and class.
