The Story Scrapbook has been on the move again!

Every week, a different class around the school is delivered the scrapbook by two of our Spinebreakers. The class's task is to fill a double-page spread with work based on a book of their choice - this could be their end-of-day story or a class favourite. Classes can fill their pages with drawings, paintings, writing, collages - they just need to be creative and use their imaginations!

Last week, the Story Scrapbook was delivered to Walnut class in Year 1. The class chose Cave Baby as their theme and produced some lovely work!

Dilan and Montana, Walnut class's Spinebreakers, returned the Story Scrapbook to the library for some photos. They then delivered it to Pine class in Year 2 for their turn. 

We look forward to seeing what Pine class will choose to do!

Reading Assemblies - A wiggly superhero and Great Women who changed the world!

 

In KS1, Miss Myers shared Superworm by Julia Donaldson. Meet the wiggliest, squiggliest superhero in the world in the funny picture book.

Miss Bell picked out a few of the people featured in Kate Pankhurst's book, Fantastically Great Women who Changed the World.

105 Books to Read Before You Leave Broadford

Well done to Violet, Isabella, Alexandra, Iustin, Rosie, Jason, Layla, Adelina, Inaya, Anu, Jessica, Khushbakht, Amaya, Elizabeth, Nikita B and Nikita S who have received their Bronze Certificates for reading five books.

Well done to Isabella, Anu, Amaya, Sadhana, Elizabeth and Nikita S who have received their Silver Certificates for reading 10 books.

Well done to Anu and Sadhana who have earned their Gold Certificates for reading all 15 books!

Story Suitcases

This week, our Story Suitcases were taken home by Grayson, Layla, Jorgie and Lily. We hope you all enjoy a snuggly evening with a yummy hot chocolate.  

Please return all suitcases back to school by THURSDAY morning.

Year 5 Spinebreakers visit Waterstones

 

 Our Year 5 Spinebreakers had a lovely trip to Waterstones in Romford this morning. Their mission was to purchase a selection of new books for the school Library!

The children spent lots of time perusing the shelves to find books from favourite authors and series that they knew would be welcome additions to our library. They made some great selections, including Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, David Walliams, some Christmas chapter books and a wonderful Encyclopedia of Everything!

Once they had chosen and purchased their books, the Spinebreakers headed upstairs to enjoy tasty hot chocolates and sweet treats in the W Cafe while completing some wordsearches.

On our return to school, the Year 5 Spinebreakers headed to the library, where their final job to end a fun morning was to mark off another successfully completed task from their Spinebreaker trackers - * Purchased new books for the library.

The lovely range of new books purchased will soon be going on display in the library for everyone to borrow and enjoy!

Lunchtime library club

Last week in the library, our lunchtime club got creative, making some wonderful odd socks to display as part of Anti-bullying Week's Odd Socks Day, and Pudsey Bear masks for Children in Need.

Library displays 

Last week was Anti-bullying Week and the theme was 'Choose Respect'. Our library display included the fab odd socks that the lunchtime club children had made.

Last week was also Nursery Rhyme Week and we celebrated it with a great selection of books available for children to borrow, as well as some favourite nursery rhyme characters.

 New in the Library 

We received another kind donation of books from a parent last week, which included some wonderful, non-fiction books all about lifecycles, such as Puppy to Dog and Acorn to Oak Tree.

Chatterbooks sessions

Last week, the KS1 Chatterbooks groups continued with the Giraffes Can't Dance. They had a variety of activities to choose from and enjoyed dancing like Gerald the Giraffe. 

 

 

The KS2 Chatterbooks groups continued enjoying Tell Me A Dragon. Everyone had great fun using their imaginations to design their own dragons!

Book reviews

Our Year 6 Spinebreakers completed some great book reviews during their trip to the library last week.

Spinebreakers

Last week, our Year 6 Spinebreakers had a lovely visit to Harold Hill library. They read stories, completed book reviews, learned how the library works and had a try of using the library machine to borrow books. Everyone had a great time! 

105 Books reading achievements

Well done to Layla, Natalia, Adalind, Alice and Ronnie who have read five books, earning their Bronze Certificates.

Well done to Matthew, Layla and Alice who have read 10 books, earning their Silver Certificates.

Well done to Elyssa who has read all 15 books, earning her Gold Certificate and completing her tracker.

Urgent request - Returning borrowed library books

We have had lots of lovely new books added to the library collection over the past couple of months but, unfortunately, many of them have been borrowed by children and never returned to the library. Please can you check at home to see if you have any Broadford library books (stamped inside/Broadford logo attached). If you do, please pass them to your child to return to the library asap, where our Book Monster is waiting to eat them! Thank you.

Year 6 Spinebreakers visit Harold Hill Library!

  

Yesterday, our Year 6 Spinebreakers enjoyed a lovely trip to Harold Hill Library with Miss Flower and Mrs Jobber. 

First, they browsed the shelves before each choosing a book to read.

  

Once they had read their books, they each completed a book review.

The Spinebreakers then listened to a story and completed a shared read, before learning about how the library works and the process of borrowing books. To practice, they each had a turn of using the library machine to check out a book. 

Those children who do not already have one were given an application form for a Library Card.

Everyone had a lovely time and it was great to tick some more tasks off of their Spinebreaker trackers for this year!
