KS1 Returning Book Raffle

The Returning Books Raffle begins this week for all pupils in Key Stage 1.


Children in years 1 and 2 will receive a raffle ticket every time they return their library book. One name will be pulled from each class box before we break for the October half-term, with each winner receiving a book of their choice to keep.

The more times they return their books he more chance they will have of winning!

Meet the Spinebreakers for 2016/17!

Here are our new Spinebreakers for 2016/17. They will be our link between the classroom and library, promoting new books, competitions and challenges. They will welcome and interview authors and illustrator who visit our school, as well as, borrowing books from Hilldene Library and purchasing new books from Waterstones.

Get Caught Reading Summer Competition Returns!

We are running our Get Caught Reading competition again this summer...

The competition will run from now until Monday 12 September, with the winner being announced on the Friday of that week. One winner will receive a £10 book token and two runners up will receive a £5 book token each.

To be in with a chance of winning have a picture of you reading taken during the holidays and get an adult to share it with us on Facebook, or print it out and hand it in when we return in September.

Returning Books

From next week we will begin collecting in LIBRARY books from pupils in key stage one. For every book a child returns they will receive a raffle ticket for the end of year raffle. During the last full week of term four names will be pulled from the hat, each winner will choose a new book of their choice to keep.

Premier Reading Winners At The Hockey Champions Trophy!

Congratulations to The Brownie Girls - Lilly Reynolds, Chloe Kirk, Ja'shayla Cousins Okolie, Lillie Mersh and Sonia Lewis who came second in the Premier Reading League for the Summer Term. In first place, with 50 points, was Teni Adu, Harley Boland, Tia Himuyandi, Elina Joshi and Alisha March. The winning teams where joined by Samuel Murcia and Ranita Ariyibi who earned the most points individually.


As a reward for their reading efforts they visited the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre at the Olympic Park on Monday to watch the Men's Hockey Champions Trophy. They watched two games on the day, the first was Great Britain v Korea. Great Britain won with a score of 4-1. The second game was Germany v Australia, all Teni's cheering paid off with Australia winning with the final score being 4-3. Due to the poor weather conditions we were unable to stay to watch the last game of the day where Belgium beat India, 2-1.

Book Club At The Theater!

The year 3 book club visited London on Wednesday to watch the musical of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Over the past few weeks they have been meeting weekly to share the story, discuss the characters, settings and plot, design new rooms for Willy Wonka's factory and come up with ideas for their own delicious chocolaty treat!



With plenty of time to spare when we arrived in London the group explored Trafalgar Square, Convent Garden and Leicester Square, where they had the chance to look inside M&M World and the Nickelodeon store...
