Author Of Lark The Shark Will Be Returning To Broadford!

We are extremely excited to be welcoming back Natalie Newman, author of the Lark the Shark series. Natalie visited Reception and Key Stage One last February, where she read her story, Lark the Shark. The story was a huge hit with our younger pupils, teaching them the importance of keeping our oceans free from litter.

Helping us to celebrate World Book Day, Natalie will be returning to Broadford on Friday 3rd March 2023 to share her latest story in the series, Lark the Shark and Wonda the Whale. Children in Reception and Years 1 and 2 will be treated to a special reading of this wonderful tale full of adventure, friendship and kindness.

Natalie will be selling signed copies of her book straight after school, under the canopy in the playground for £8. If you wish to purchase a copy, please bring cash with you on the day.

Poetry Corner - New Books Now In!

We are super excited to introduce our newest addition to Broadford library – Poetry Corner.

Recently, we won a competition and were gifted with ten beautiful new books full of poetry for our children to enjoy.

Poetry plays an important role in children’s learning as it supports the development of children's emotional literacy. They can learn to manage and reflect on their emotions, feelings and behaviour through drawing on experiences they hear about in poems shared. Poetry can also help children tap into their creativity by encouraging them to think about the new and unexpected relationships between words.

The First Reading Assemblies Of 2023!

With the start of a new term, we seethe return of our weekly Reading Assemblies again. Our reading assemblies are used to promote the texts featured on the '105 Books to Read Before you Leave Broadford' list and celebrate the reading successes across the school.

This week, KS1 were lucky enough to attend two reading assemblies. The first one (on Friday) was lead by Mrs Nicholls. Julia Donaldson's text, Tyrannosaurus Drip, was the book shared. This book can be found on the Reception Reading Tracker.

The second assembly was lead by Miss Myers. The story shared was 'Giraffes Can't Dance'. This book can be found on the Year 1 Reading Tracker.

Both books are now available to borrow from the school Library.

Miss Wyatt held the reading assembly for KS2. She shared Elizabeth Laird's 'The Fastest Boy in the World'. This story follows the hopes and dreams of eleven-year-old Solomon. Set in Ethiopia, he dreams of following in the footsteps of his heroes, the great athletes of the Ethiopian national team, by becoming a gold-medal-winning athlete. This book can be found on the Year 6 Reading Tracker.

Winter-Themed Reading Day!

You may have seen over on our Library Instagram page that we held a Winter-themed Reading Day at the end of the Autumn Term. Classes were invited to the new hall to enjoy a huge selection of festive and wintery tales. Each class was paired up with a class from another key stage. The Year 6 Spinebreakers were on hand throughout the day to assist the classes as they arrived and oversaw their festive stations. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories with their peers.

Take a look at some of the photos we took during the day.
