More 'Invent A Spell' Entries!

Today was the last day to hand your Harry Potter Spells in to be in with a chance of winning a Harry Potter themed event for the school. This week we received another nine entries...










Well done to everyone who has taken part. If you would still like to create a spell we still have certificates to give out! Pick up a competition sheet from the library.

Year 3 Spinebreakers Visit Waterstones - Competition Info Too!

This week our Year 3 Spinebreakers took a trip to Waterstones in Romford, where they chose a selection of new books for our library.


They also enjoyed hot chocolates and chocolate chip muffins in Costa!

Competition

To promote their new purchases, our Spinebreakers have come up with some mini challenges for you to complete once you have read at least one of their books. Pass your completed challenge(s) onto Miss Sparkes in the library. Your name will then go into a raffle. Two winners will receive copies of a book of their choice. Closing date for this competition is Friday 26 February, winners will be announced on World Book Day (Thursday 3 March 2016). All mini challenges can be found on display in the library. Good luck!

Design a Picture Book Competition 2016

Reading Zone have launched their World Book Day 'Design a Picture Book' competition for 2016. The annual competition is open to everyone aged between 4 and 18 years; and will run from now until Saturday 23 April, with the winners being announced in June.

There will be four awards categories, including:

Younger Creators (4-6 years)
Primary (7+ years)
Secondary (11+ years)
Behind the Scenes (whole school involvement and group work)

Prizes will include a free author event for the overall winner and 50 printed copies of their book for each category winner. The overall winning picture book will become available on The Guardian children's website.

Popular children's author, Mick Inkpen will be on the judging panel, selecting winners from each category.

To enter, pick up a competition pack from the library, and hand your entry in no later than Friday 15 April 2016. Good luck!

Spinebreakers' Competition - Open To All Key Stage One Pupils

Following their trip to Waterstones in the Autumn Term , our year 1/2 Spinebreakers have come up with a competition to promote one of the stories they chose on their visit. The competition will run until Friday 5 February 2016. Entries can be handed in to the library.

How to enter:


The Spinebreakers will meet to choose two winning entries. The winners will receive copies of Superhero Dad.

One Week Left To Hand In Your Harry Potter Spells!

We have had so many entries to the Harry Potter 'Invent a Spell' competition! Children from Reception to Year 6 have been eager to participate. Here are some entries from the last week...










If you would like to be in with a chance of winning a Professor of Potter live event for our school as well as a goody bag. 25 runners up will receive a Harry Potter box set, then pick up an 'Invent a Spell' sheet today. Any entries after this time will not be entered into the national competition, however children will still receive a Harry Potter certificate.

National Literacy Trust - Spring Reading Adventure

Children in KS1 and lower KS2 have been collecting their reading charts ready for the Literacy Trust's Spring competition. Pupils are asked to sign their chart every time they read for ten minutes, from time to time an adult will need to sign the chart too. On completing the chart, they will need to return it to the library where they will receive a certificate. If they return their chart before the 18th March they will be entered into a prize drawer where they could win one of the following prizes, depending on the chart they completed.


For the Frankie's Magic Football chart;

- A Chelsea football shirt signed by Frank Lampard
- A set of the first Frankie's Magic Football series (15 books in total)
- A £25 book voucher
The winning school will receive:

- A Frankie's Magic Football themed event featuring an entertainer
- A set of the first Frankie's Magic Football series

Five runners up will receive Frankie’s Magic Football goody bags featuring a signed copy of the latest Frankie’s Magic Football special.


For the Magic Animal Friends chart;

- A Magic Animal Friends goody bag containing stickers, bookmark, poster and hair accessories 
- A set of the first Magic Animal Friends series (15 books in total)
- A £25 book voucher

The winning school will receive:

- A Magic Animal Friends themed event featuring an entertainer
- A set of the Magic Animal Friends series

Five runners up will receive the latest Magic Animal Friends series (four books in total).

Harry Potter Challenge - More Spells Have Been Created!

We have had a brilliant response for the Harry Potter Book Night Competition so far, with three pupils completing a Harry Potter book, and 13 spells being created by pupils from Reception to Year 6...












If you would like to take -part, simply pick up an 'Invent Your Own Magical Spell' sheet from the library. Closing date for all entries is Friday 29 January. Good luck!

Premier Reading League Kicks Off Today!

The ten week reading competition returns today!

Children can earn points for their teams by reading and reviewing books. At the end of the ten weeks the two top teams (with the most points) will be rewarded with a trip to watch The London Lions play at The Copper Box at the end of the Spring Term.
