On arrival, they explored the children's area - admiring the many new stories for the festive season. After choosing two books each, they enjoyed tasty hot chocolates and sweet treats in the W café.

Here are the books they chose:

Viviana headed straight for the 'books of the season' section.

With World Cup fever in the air, Riley chose two football-themed story books.

Elisa picked two stories by world famous authors.

Aliza was drawn to these animal stories.

Blake and Daniel were also caught up in the World Cup fever!

All books will be available to borrow from the Library when we return in the new year.

Reading Assembly - Super Readers!

Mrs Stanley was super excited to share Vivian French's 'Yucky Worms! This fantastic text is both fiction and non-fiction rolled into one! The story follows a little boy who visits his Gran. During the visit, they discover a wiggly worm hiding in the garden. Gran explains all about worms and how they are her gardening friends.

Did you know...
Worms have five pairs of hearts.
A worm's tail can regrow if it's cut off!

The pages are filled with extra pieces of information about worms - you'll find an index in the back of the book to help you find specific facts easily. This book is now available to borrow from the school library. If you are in year 1 or 2 and heard this story in the assembly this week, don't be put off by the fact it is listed on the Reception Reading Tracker, this book can be read by anyone!

Mrs Green read the opening chapters of Kid Normal; the first book from the series of five. Main character, Murph Cooper, starts a new school several weeks into the beginning of the term. Murph is filled with nerves after discovering his mum has enrolled him into a school for Superheroes by mistake. Murph doesn't possess any special powers, unlike his fellow students who can control the weather, fly and conjure up tiny horses! To find out more about Murph and his new school for superheroes, pick up a copy from the school library now! This book features on the Year 3 Reading Tracker.

The Spinebreakers Visit Harold Hill Library!

Yesterday, the Spinebreakers from Year 2, Redwood and Lime spent an enjoyable afternoon visiting Harold Hill Library. After returning the books from our last visit, they explored the newly refurbished children's area. Now positioned towards the back of the library, there are less distractions from people coming and going. Take a look next time you visit.

They enjoyed some quiet time sharing stories the library had to offer. Nyasa chose to read a wonderful story by Catherine and Laurence Anholt titled 'One World Together'. Placing emphasis on the importance of friendship, the story features children from around the world, listing their interests and traditions.

Towards the end of their visit, they picked out a selection of books to borrow. The Spinebreakers will be given time to read the books during their visits to our school library.

A wonderful afternoon was had by all.

A Busy Week For The Spinebreakers!

Reading Scrapbook

Rowan Spinebreakers, Nyasa and Lucas, visited the library yesterday afternoon to collect the Reading Scrapbook. The scrapbook had spent a week, before half term, in Redwood class. The children had filled their pages with illustrations and information about the books they have been reading as part of their literacy lessons and end of day read.

Nyasa and Lucas wrote a special note and deliverd it, along with the scrapbook, to the Nursery (AM) children. The scrapbook will remain in Nursery for the next week.

Writing Letter to Pupils Across England

Riley and Viviana, our Redwood Spinebreakers, spent time in the Library writing letters to children from schools in Eastbourne and Surrey. The aim of their letters is to find out what stories are popular with children their own age.
