Swashbuckle Reading Adventure - Part Five

Children's Laureate: Chris Riddell

Chris Riddell has been appointed the new Children's Laureate for 2015-2017. Famous for his illustrations, Chris will work to support school libraries and local libraries who provide books to children, helping them to develop into great thinkers and readers.

A selection of Chris's books will soon be available in the library along with activity sheets to match. He writes books for children aged 3 to 11, so we look forward to sharing his stories soon!

Part Four - Teddy Bears' Picnic

The Swashbuckle characters run into more trouble as they prepare for a teddy bears' picnic. Children can then design their own teddy bear and pirate flag.

Pupils Earn Their War Medals

On Friday we had 12 War medals awarded to pupils who have been taking part in the library's reading challenge. Finley, Teni, Kieran, Arhann and Mervyn all achieved their First World War medals by reading three books from our recommended reading list. Titles include, War Horse, Horrible Histories, The Story of World War One, and Archie's War. They all went on to read three books from our World War Two book list, earning their second medal. This time they were joined by Chloe and Nathaniel. We have lots of new World War Two books on offer for all ages, so, if you would like to take part please see Miss Sparkes in the library and start reading today.
