Festive fun in the Library - final week

The final week of festive fun in the Library!

This week in the library, we enjoyed our final week of festive fun before the Christmas holidays begin.

Displays
We have a wide selection of Christmas, festive and winter-themed books and magazines for all ages in the library, which have been displayed all around for children to borrow. Children from all year groups have continued to enjoy the stories.

Reading Advent Calendar
Our Reading Advent Calendar continues to be incredibly popular! Examples of reading challenges for this final week have included 'Choose a book beginning with S', 'Choose a pink book' and 'Choose a non-fiction book'.

The children have loved taking part, with lots continuing to come to the library every morning to check what that day's challenge is. Not only is this a fun activity for them to enjoy but it also encourages them to try out new authors, genres and books that they may not have chosen otherwise.

Libby the Library Elf
Libby the Library Elf has continued to have lots of fun and mischief around the library, to the delight of the children popping in to see her! We had a Christmas coded message that the children needed to crack and some fun with googly-eye Christmas books!
We wonder if Libby will return to the library again next Christmas?

Lunchtime Library Club
On Monday, our lunchtime Library Club children continued to enjoy the Christmas-themed activities, including a fun elf activity booklet and Christmas wordsearches.

Winter Reading Challenge
This week, we launched our Winter Reading Challenge, for children to take part in
over the Christmas holidays.

Once we return to school in January, children should hand their
completed tracker to Miss Flower or Mrs Jobber in the Library
by Monday 13th January 2025 and collect a Certificate!

What a fun-packed build up to Christmas we have had!

The Story Scrapbook has been on the move again!

The Story Scrapbook has been on the move around the school again!

Every week, a different class around the school is delivered the scrapbook by two of our Spinebreakers. The class's task is to fill a double-page spread with work based on a book of their choice - this could be their end-of-day story or a class favourite. Classes can fill their pages with drawings, paintings, writing, collages - they just need to be creative and use their imaginations!

Last week, the Story Scrapbook was delivered to Almond class in Year 5. The class chose two Christmas-themed books - The Night Before Christmas and Snowball. The children produced some great book reviews and creative artwork about both books.

The Story Scrapbook was then returned for some photos with Almond class's two Spinebreakers, George and Jefflyn.

After Christmas, the scrapbook will be delivered to Redwood class in Year 6. We look forward to seeing what they will choose to do!
