Another class gets creative with the Story Scrapbook!

              

The Story Scrapbook continues to travel around the school!

Every week, a different class around the school is delivered the scrapbook by two of our Spinebreakers. The class's task is to fill a double-page spread with work based on a book of their choice - this could be their end-of-day story or a class favourite. Classes can fill their pages with drawings, paintings, writing, collages - they just need to be creative and use their imaginations!

Last week, the Story Scrapbook was delivered to Larch class in Year 6. The class chose Holes by Louis Sachar and produced two very creative pages full of book reviews and drawings!

The Story Scrapbook was then returned to the library for some photos with Larch class's two Spinebreakers, Abdulkarim and Aisha. They then delivered it to Willow class in Year 4 for their turn.

We look forward to seeing what Willow class will choose to do!

Reading Assemblies - The Snail and The Whale and The Girl who Stole an Elephant!

           

 

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Miss McClenaghan read The Snail and The Whale. When a tiny snail meets a humpback whale, the two travel together to far-off lands. It's a dream come true for the snail, who has never left home before. But when the whale swims too close to shore, will the snail be able to save her new friend?

Miss Munnelly read some extracts from The Girl who Stole an Elephant for the KS2 Reading Assembly this week. Chaya leads her friends and a gorgeous elephant on an adventure through the jungle. Will stealing the Queen's jewels be the beginning or the end of everything for the gang?

This week, our Story Suitcases were taken home by Renae and Evandy, Mujtaba, Emma and Nana. We hope you all enjoy a snuggly evening with a yummy hot chocolate.

Lunchtime library club

Last Monday, our lunchtime library club continued with some freestyle creativity on a big strip of paper - their task was to draw their favourite book character. Well done to all who took part. 

Chatterbooks sessions

Last week, the KS1 Chatterbooks groups continued with the story The Gruffalo! Everyone had fun designing their own Gruffalo and completed different activity sheets. 

New KS2 Chatterbooks groups continued enjoying Julia Donaldson's classic, What the Ladybird Heard. Everyone loved getting creative and making fabulous ladybird bookmarks! 

Spinebreakers
Last week, our Year 4 Spinebreakers had a lovely visit to Harold Hill library. They read stories, completed book reviews, learned how the library works and had a try of using the library machine to borrow books. Everyone had a great time!

We have been very fortunate to receive lots of donated books from popular children's author, David Walliams.

Urgent request - Returning borrowed library books

We have had lots of lovely new books added to the library collection over the past couple of months but, unfortunately, many of them have been borrowed by children and never returned to the library. Please can you check at home to see if you have any Broadford library books (stamped inside/Broadford logo attached). If you do, please pass them to your child to return to the library asap, where our Book Monster is waiting to eat them! Thank you.

Super readers - Congratulations to Alder class!

 

 

Huge congratulations to Alder class in Reception for being the first class this year where all children have completed their '15 Books to Read' and earned their Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates!

Year 4 Spinebreakers visit Harold Hill Library!

    

Yesterday, our Year 4 Spinebreakers enjoyed a lovely trip to Harold Hill Library with Miss Flower and Mrs Jobber. 

First, they browsed the shelves before each choosing a book to read.

Once they had read their books, they each completed a book review.

 

The Spinebreakers then listened to a story, before learning about how the library works and the process of borrowing books. To practice, they each had a turn of using the library machine to check out a book.

Those children who do not already have one were given an application form for a Library Card.

Everyone had a lovely time and it was great to tick some more tasks off of their Spinebreaker trackers for this year!
