Check Out Our New Story Suitcases!

This week, we have introduced Story Suitcases to the library. There are four in total - one for Early Years, one for KS1, one for lower KS2 and one for upper KS2. Four children will be chosen each week to take a suitcase home. Each suitcase is filled with everything needed for a cosy reading session at home. The suitcases will be presented to pupils during our weekly reading assemblies. 

This week the suitcases will be taken home with Alice, Jaxon, Lily-Mae and Thomas.

We Have Our First Blue Peter Reading Badge!

Congratulations to our superstar, Lily-Mae! She burst through the doors this morning, excited to show off her Blue Peter Reading Badge. Her badge arrived yesterday with a special letter from the Blue Peter team. We are so proud of Lily-Mae and cannot wait for more pupils to receive their badges!

We are all about 'reading' on this blog, but did you know there are more badges to collect?! Lily-Mae is on a mission to collect them all. She was also wearing the iconic Blue Badge and beautiful Silver Badge. Find out more about the badges you can earn by clicking on the photo of Lily-Mae below. 

Now Lily-Mae has earned her badge, she can apply for a Blue Peter Badge Card. This card will allow her to visit hundreds of UK attractions for free! If you have a badge, but haven't yet signed-up for a card, click here.

Don't forget, you can still earn a badge like Lily-Mae's. Pop into the school library and pick up an entry form. The form consists of three pages. Page one is a for your adult to complete. On page two you have space to write about stories you have enjoyed reading and on the final page there is space to draw your favourite character of scene. 

Reading Assemblies - The Smeds, The Smoos And A Normal Kid!

Mrs Ward shared Julia Donaldson's tale of The Smeds and The Smoos. From far-off planets, Bill from the blue planet and Janet from the red, fall in madly in love. However, Janet and Bill's families disapprove of their romance. The two prove that love conquers all and put an end to the their families' war by bringing them the perfect bundle of joy - a purple SmedSmoo! This story of hope can be found on the the Year 2 Reading Tracker.

Mrs Bamgboye read the opening to a hit with the kids - Kid Normal. This book features of the Year 3 Reading Tracker and very rarely stays on our Library shelves for long! The story follows the life of Murph, who is accidently enrolled into Superhero school!

Well done to Zara, David, Daniel and Freya, who have all earned their Bronze Certificates for reading five books.

Blue Peter Reading Badges - From Spooky Bums To Kings With Horse-Like Ears!

Well done to Aariz and Nevaeh, who have both worked incredibly hard at home to complete their entry forms for the Blue Peter Reading Badge. Their entries have been posted; now we eagerly await for the badges to arrive.

Last week, a group of Year 2 Spinebreakers spent the afternoon in the Library filling in their forms. They made sure their work was to a very high standard!

Sophia wrote about her current favourite story - The King with Horse's Ears. This story features in an issue of Storytime Magazine. Sophia explained how the King tricks barbers into cutting his hair, however, when they discover he has horse-like ears he banishes them to his cellar, where they live for the rest of their days!

With Halloween fresh in his mind, Hayden was excited to write about '101 Spooky Bums'. Grumpy, jumpy, moany and bony - this books is full of frightful bums! Hayden loves this story, especially the illustrations, that make him chuckle!

In class, Zyana has been reading from the Elephant and Piggie storybook collection. Her favourite from the series is 'Happy Pig Day'. Zyana drew a fantastic illustration of the two characters.

  

Don't forget, you can collect an entry form from the school Library today! Once you have completed it, drop it back into the Library, where we will send it off for you.

Broadford Wins Pandora Books Giveaway!

Back in September, Pandora Books advertised a book-tastic giveaway to win a box of brand new books. All the staff at Broadford signed-up in the hope of winning the books for our school. We are pleased to announce that last week Mrs Bamgboye received an email congratulating her on winning!

A huge well done and thank you to Mrs Bamgboye!

We have since received the box of books and displayed them in the Library. Take a look on your next visit.

Reading Assembly - Something Spooky!

This week, our KS2 reading assembly fell on Halloween! We searched our list of 105 Books to read on this spook-tacular day and came across Eleanor Hawken's 'Sammy Feral's Diaries of Weird: Vampire Attack'. Main character, Sammy, spends his time with the furry and ferocious tenants of his family-run zoo. Along with his friends, Red and Donny, Sammy investigates weird creatures like werewolves, yetis and dragons. This book can be found on the Year 6 Reading Tracker.

Well done to Ethan, George, Safiyyah, Rojure, Pragya, Hallie and Sophie, who have all read the first five books and earned their Bronze Certificates!  

Super effort from Dilan, Theodor and Natalia-Elena, who have read ten books and earned their Silver Certificates. 

A huge well done to Elyssa, who has completed her tracker by reading all fifteen books and has been awarded her Gold Certificate.

Spooky Spider Reading Challenge!

During the half-term break, our brilliant Broadford pupils headed to Harold Hill Library to complete the Spooky Spider Reading Challenge! The aim of the challenge was to read three books during the week away from school.

To earn her certificate, Lily-Mae read Flat Stanley, Facts About Sharks and Noah ate Amy. Lily-Mae also took part in the craft event with her younger sister. At the event, they made friends with children from other schools and made beautiful pumpkins. Lily-Mae plans to hang hers in the windows for all to see.

Daria, Sadhana and Amerah signed-up straight away and read, read, read!.

Tesha and Dhaksha are regular visitors of Harold Hill Library, so it was no surprise that they took up the chance of completing the challenge! They each received spooky spider certificates.

Well done to all who completed the challenge!
