The Scrapbook Has Been Delivered To...

Apricot Spinebreakers had the important job of delivering the reading scrapbook to it's first destination today - to Almond Class!

Zofia and Alfie visited the library at the end of last week to write a special note for Almond class. They were the first Spinebreakers to take a look inside our special writing box, which is full of colourful stickers, fun pencils and pretty note cards. They chose their pencil of choice and got writing straight away!

Today, they were very excited to climb the stairs that lead to the Year 6 classrooms and make this special delivery.

Beech Spinebreakers will return to Almond next week and collect the scrapbook. We cannot wait to hear about the story they have been reading as part of their end of day read!

Reading Assembly - Summer Reading Winners Announced!

This week, our reading assemblies were lead by Miss Betty (KS2 assembly) and Mrs Hathaway (KS1 assembly). Each assembly started off with an introduction to a new book featured on the list of 105 Books to Read Before you Leave Broadford.

Miss Betty shared the introduction to Roald Dahl's, The Magic Finger, which can be found on the Year 3 Reading Tracker. Our reading assembly fell on 'Roald Dahl Day'! What a way to celebrate by reading the opening chapters to one of his most loved books!

Mrs Hathaway read Marcus Pfister's 'Rainbow Fish'. Year 1 were excited to hear this story, as it was one of their favourites when they were in Reception. This book can be found on the Reception Reading Tracker. You can find a selection of colouring pictures to colour here.

We have purchased extra copies of each title, all of which can be borrowed from the library now.

Summer Reading Challenge

At the end of the last academic year, pupils were given a reading tracker to complete over the summer break. Well done to the following children, who successfully completed their trackers;

Robyn, Oscar, Nikita, Andreea, Torsten, Adam, Aryaan, Anaelle, Eason, Iustin, Alice, Jessica, Tesha, George, Louise-Marie, Madalina, Leonard and Alex.

Get Caught Reading

We were delighted to receive over 100 photos of our pupils reading during the summer. Like previous years, choosing one winner and one runner-up per key stage was very testing! With so many fantastic photos to choose from, we finally made our decisions...

KS1 Winner: Wais and KS1 Runner-Up: Alice

KS2 Winner: Deivydas and KS2 Runner-Up: Lily-Mae

The winning pupils were rewarded with Book Tokens

Thank you to everyone who sent in a photo. It was wonderful to see pictures of so many children completing the Gadgeteers challenge too! If you haven't had the chance to see the entries, please head over to our Library Instagram page and check them out.

'Our Favourite Stories' Scrapbook

This year, we will be introducing a reading scrapbook. The scrapbook will be travelling around the school, visiting each class at some point. The Spinebreakers will be responsible for the delivering and collecting the book every Thursday. Each class will be given one week to fill a double page with artwork, writing and their thoughts on the book they are listening to as part of their end of day read.

The Year 1 Spinebreakers took the lead and filled the first double spread this week! After hearing the story of Supertato and his friends, the Super Veggies, they were keen to draw pictures of the characters and write sentences about the book.

Next week, the scrapbook will be delivered to it's first class! We can't wait to see where it ends up and what creativity it will be filled with!
