The Editor's Challenge Starts Today!

The National Literacy Trust have teamed up with Mega Magazine and Girl Talk to launch a new challenge for Key Stage two children! Following research they discovered that 'nearly half of children and young people aged 8 to 18 in the UK read magazines outside class at least once a month. Those that read magazines were more likely to report they enjoyed reading and read more frequently and more read above the expected level for their age compared to their peers who did not read magazines.' With that in mind, they created the Editor's Challenge to promote reading for pleasure.

to take part you will need to create an issue of Girl Talk or Mega magazine - copies of both magazines are available to look at in the library. Templates and instructions for five separate activities are available from Miss Sparkes; all five activities completed will form the magazine. the activities include, a celebrity feature, a review, a quiz, a storyboard and a front cover.

You will need to complete at least three of the activities to be entered into a prize draw. A winner will be selected at random, receiving an eReader, £50 in book vouchers and a one-year subscription to either Girl Talk or Mega magazine, with the winner's school receiving a visit from a storyteller and a one-year subscription to five Media Magazines!

Additionally, 10 runners-up will receive a one-year subscription to the magazine of their choice.

BONUS CATEGORY!!
I will be looking for the three most creative magazines to send off to be judged. A national winner will invited to the Immediate Media head office to learn more about how magazines are put together!

Visit the library today to pick up you challenge chart and your first activity!
