Reading Assemblies - The Proudest Blue and Questions and Answers About Our World!

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Miss Myers read The Proudest Blue.
This is an uplifting picture book with Islam at its heart, with a universal story of new experiences, the unbreakable bond shared by siblings and of being proud of who you are.
This book features on the Year 2 105 book list, which you can see here

Mrs Bamgboye read some extracts from Questions and Answers about our World for the KS2 Reading Assembly this week.
A beautifully illustrated, geography book full of flaps to lift to find answers to questions such as "Where is the tallest waterfall?", "When can I see a shooting star?", and "What are clouds made of?".

This book features on the Year 4 105 book list, which you can see here

Please email Miss Flower and Mrs Jobber if you are looking for one of the '105 Books to Read', with your child's full name and class.

Year 1 Spinebreakers visit Harold Hill Library!

Yesterday, our Year 1 Spinebreakers enjoyed a lovely trip to Harold Hill Library with Miss Flower and Mrs Jobber.

First, they browsed the shelves before each choosing a book to read.

Once they had read their books, they each completed a book review.

The Spinebreakers then listened to a story and enjoyed a shared read, before learning about how the library works and the process of borrowing books. To practice, they each had a turn of using the library machine to check out a book.

Those children who do not already have one were given an application form for a Library Card.

Everyone had a lovely time and it was great to tick some more tasks off of their Spinebreaker trackers for this year!

The Story Suitcases have left the Library!

This week, our Story Suitcases have been taken home by Monroe, Daisy, Alfie and Meerab. Each pupil will keep their Story Suitcase until Thursday morning - giving them time to spend a cosy evening to snuggle with the bear and share the story over a cup of hot chocolate.

Included in the suitcases, are scrapbooks for the children to record what they loved about the story. We hope they thoroughly enjoy the stories we have chosen this week. We look forward to presenting them to more children next week.

Spring Reading Challenge Reminder!

We have had quite a few completed Spring Reading Challenge sheets handed in already - don't forget to hand yours in to Miss Flower or Mrs Jobber in the Library by Monday 28th April 2025!

The Story Scrapbook continues its journey!

The Story Scrapbook continues to travel around the school!

Every week, a different class around the school is delivered the scrapbook by two of our Spinebreakers. The class's task is to fill a double-page spread with work based on a book of their choice - this could be their end-of-day story or a class favourite. Classes can fill their pages with drawings, paintings, writing, collages - they just need to be creative and use their imaginations!
~~~
Last week, the Story Scrapbook was delivered to Rowan class in Year 2. The class chose Meerkat Mail as their story and produced two very creative pages!
The Story Scrapbook was then returned to the library for some photos with one of Rowan class's Spinebreakers, Teodor.
When we return to school after Easter, the Story Scrapbook will be delivered to Beech class in Year 1 for their turn.
We look forward to seeing what Beech class will choose to do!
