World Book Day
Last Thursday, the whole school celebrated World Book Day in style, with lots of fun throughout the day! You can read all about it here.

Lunchtime library club
Last Monday, our lunchtime library club had great fun with some freestyle creativity on a big strip of paper - their task was to draw their favourite book character.

Chatterbooks sessions
Last week, the KS1 Chatterbooks groups enjoyed listening to The Gruffalo! Everyone is excited to start their activity.

New KS2 Chatterbooks groups started enjoying Julia Donaldson's classic, What the Ladybird Heard. Everyone had great fun acting out the animal sounds throughout the book while wearing the matching masks!

Library Displays
Spring into Reading in the library! We recently asked lots of children and adults in school to write onto a handprint something they love about reading - like their favourite children’s book or author, or why they enjoy our library. We have now used these to create a wonderful new wall display to celebrate the arrival of Spring - a beautiful, blossoming tree and flowers made out of the handprints!

New books in the Library
We have a lovely new selection of books available for children to borrow from the library, including firm favourites like Diary of A Wimpy Kid, David Walliams and Percy Jackson, as well as a wonderful new boxset of Shakespeare classics, which lots of children in Year 4 particularly are very keen to start reading!

The Story Scrapbook has been on the move again!

The Story Scrapbook continues to travel around the school!

Every week, a different class around the school is delivered the scrapbook by two of our Spinebreakers. The class's task is to fill a double-page spread with work based on a book of their choice - this could be their end-of-day story or a class favourite. Classes can fill their pages with drawings, paintings, writing, collages - they just need to be creative and use their imaginations!

Last week, the Story Scrapbook was delivered to Elm class in Year 4. The class chose the Louis Sachar classic, There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom, and produced two very creative pages!

The Story Scrapbook was then returned to the library for some photos with Elm class's two Spinebreakers, Ryan and Tesha. They then delivered it to Lime class in Year 5 for their turn.

We look forward to seeing what Lime class will choose to do!

Reading Assemblies - Ocean Meets Sky and Phenomenal Plants!

For the KS1 Reading Assembly this week, Mrs Nur read Ocean Meets Sky.
Every time Finn looks out his window it's a constant reminder of the stories his grandfather told him about the place where the ocean meets the sky. Finn's grandfather is gone now but Finn knows the perfect way to honor him. He'll build his own ship and sail out to find this magical place himself!

This book features on the Year 2 105 book list, which you can see here

Mrs Green read some extracts from Phenomenal Plants for the KS2 Reading Assembly this week. Find out why plants are phenomenal and learn about those that live in some extreme habitats or have otherwise extreme surroundings.

This book features on the Year 3 105 book list, which you can see here

Please email Miss Flower and Mrs Jobber if you are looking for one of the '105 Books to Read', with your child's full name and class.

World Book Day

We will be celebrating World Book Day on THURSDAY 6TH MARCH 2025!

To coincide with this year's 'Read Your Way' theme, we are inviting children to come into school on World Book Day in either their Favourite Character Costume or their Snuggly Pyjamas.

Please remember, as this time of year is particularly cold, it is really important that the children are dressed appropriately and have suitable footwear (such as long sleeves, trousers and outdoor shoes) to be able to enjoy any outdoor activities on the day.

Lunchtime library club
Last Monday, the children enjoyed a variety of Traditional Tales activity sheets. We also had a few children who have collected 5 stars on their Library card and received a prize.

Chatterbooks sessions
Last week, the KS1 Chatterbooks groups enjoyed listening to Elmer! They all took part completing a variety of activities and joined in a group discussion about differences.

KS2 Chatterbooks groups continued enjoying Chicken Clicking, an engaging book all about helping children to stay safe online. Some of the groups had great fun making their own chicks, while others got creative with Internet Safety colouring sheets.

Library Displays
'If you liked the movie, then read the book!'
We have a great selection of Bad Guys and Dog Man graphic novels available for children to enjoy.

Librarian Awards
Last week, a special Librarian Award certificate was awarded to Nikita in Year 4, who generously purchased some wonderful new books for the library. What a superstar!

A special Librarian Award certificate was also awarded to Elena, Dilan and family for their amazing donation of a huge amount of wonderful books for the library! Thank you so much.
